Children enjoy the festive spirit with traditional characters and drumming at the Ramadan Refugee Market.
Between December 2024 and March 2025, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) organized two flagship events in Amman: the Christmas Refugee Market by Naumann (December 5–7, 2024) and the Ramadan Refugee Market by Naumann (March 16–22, 2025).
Both events provided platforms for refugee families and small businesses to showcase handmade crafts, food, and cultural products, with 100% of sales income going directly to the refugee entrepreneurs. More than market places, these events were celebrations of cultural diversity and inclusion, where visitors engaged with refugee families, experienced their stories of resilience, and enjoyed music, storytelling, children’s activities, and traditional performances.

Together, the two markets brought visibility to refugee-led enterprises, strengthened social cohesion, and generated income for dozens of families across Syrian, Iraqi, Palestinian, and Sudanese communities in Jordan. From artisanal embroidery and mosaic art to luxury jewelry and organic skincare, the Bazaars reflected both heritage and innovation, positioning refugees as active contributors to local economies. The markets upheld the human right to economic opportunity and cultural expression, ensuring refugees are recognized not as passive beneficiaries but as equal members of society.
The project empowered 50 refugee families to earn income and share culture, turning markets with over 2,000 visitors into spaces of opportunity, resilience, and inclusion in Jordan’s local economy.
