In 2025, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Türkiye launched Freiheit+90, a flagship initiative exploring the perspectives of Germany’s largest migrant community – people of Turkish origin – on liberal values, democracy, and integration. More than sixty years after the recruitment agreement between Germany and Türkiye, over three million people with Turkish roots played a vital role in Germany’s economy, culture, and society. Yet, despite their entrepreneurial spirit and strong contributions to an open society, their connection to organized political liberalism remains limited.
Freiheit+90 responds to this gap by providing a platform for dialogue through interviews, articles, workshops, and social media campaigns. The series features personal stories of entrepreneurs, academics, journalists, politicians, and activists of Turkish background, examining how liberal values influence their lives and how German-Turkish relations shape their identities.
By amplifying diverse voices and promoting open dialogue, Freiheit+90 strengthens civic participation, combats stereotypes, and underscores the role of human rights and liberal values as the foundations of active citizenship and social cohesion in both Germany and Türkiye.
