FNF Malaysia’s longstanding partner, Ms. Norhayati “Yati” Kaprawi, has long been interested in visual arts, including painting and printmaking. Her artworks focus on women’s issues such as women’s self-autonomy, empowerment, and emancipation. On the occasion of Malaysia’s Independence Day, Yati decided to create block print artworks depicting five prominent women leaders in Malaysia, particularly women leaders who fought for Malaysian independence. These artworks, including Yati’s past artworks, were made in A2 size block printed works and displayed in an art exhibition launched on 24 August 2024, which ran for 3 weeks.

A freedom fighter and nurse, Kathigasu supported the resistance forces during the Japanese occupation of Malaya until her arrest in 1943. Kathigasu was awarded the George Medal for bravery. To this day, she’s the only Malaysian woman to have received the award.
